Needless to say, SPELL, Vancouver’s next-level metal magicians, have plenty of thoughts on the matter. And as far as they’re concerned, heavy metal is something that needs to evolve to stay vibrant and exciting. This has been the fuel for their fifth album, the brashly confident Wretched Heart. What’s more, this relentless evolutionary momentum has led to them creating their strongest record to date - a thunderous celebration of individualism and eccentricity which stalks its nocturnal realm with savage finesse and beguiling charm.
“Heavy metal can often be a regressive genre, almost by definition. But it doesn’t have to be!” emphasises the band’s singer. bassist and co-pilot Cam Mesmer, “I think that getting set in your ways is death. You have to be open to learning from new influences, or you’re washed up and a caricature of yourself. I consider SPELL to be a heavy metal band, and therefore whatever music we make, will therefore be heavy metal, rather than the other way around, where you try to make your band fit into whatever narrow niche you think heavy metal is supposed to sound like”.
Therefore whilst Wretched Heart is possessed of no shortage of stirring harmony guitars, blazing solos and foot-on-monitor bravura, it also delves into fresh psychic terrain, building on the gothic flourishes that emboldened 2022’s Tragic Magic and embracing an emotional resonance that elevates its viciously catchy songs into the stratosphere. Central to this is the chemistry of the new SPELL line-up, which consolidates the duo of Cam and drummer/guitarist/co-vocalist Al Lester with keyboardist/guitarist Gabriel Tenebrae and lead guitarist Jeff Black. Having honed this incarnation through touring with the likes of Green Lung, Wytch Hazel and Angel Witch, they’ve forged a union which throws the band firmly from the realm of retro chic into a new, bolder direction which, in the words of Baudelaire, extracts the eternal from the ephemeral.
“I feel that the core of SPELL is more of a feeling or an atmosphere than a specific sound, and by the time a song goes through our filter it always sounds like us anyhow.” reasons Cam. “I’ve never really cared for happy songs. Excited, maybe. Desperation. adrenaline. melancholy, but in a wild and passionate way”.
All of these attributes and more are to be found herein. Aided and abetted by long-time collaborator Felix Fung on mixing desk and “fifth Beatle” duties, and resplendent in a sleeve by macabre visionary Adam Burke; Wretched Heart is a glorious testimony to a band ready to transcend its influences in search of fresh glory. “Lilac”, the album’s lead single (which also features a guest guitar solo from former Spirit Adrift, Carcass and Angel Witch man Tom Draper) is their most addictive and bittersweet moment to date, channelling both stadium-sized passion and wistful longing. “Take My Life” is an existential mid-paced stomper with a chorus that a Spandex-clad ‘80s warrior would kill for yet an emotional depth that they might be perplexed by.
“Oubliette” meanwhile tackles the feeling of being trapped under the wheels of capitalism with bleak fortitude, and the gloriously stirring finale title track maps out a curious hinterland where Maiden-esque gallantry can share space with Kraftwerk-style vocoder stylings.
Having previously dealt heavily with the mystical and fantastical, Wretched Heart also showcases a new kind of emotional directness, reflecting the band’s own personal lives, as Cam attests “I challenge all lyricists: don’t be a coward! Whatever you’re feeling, have the courage to write about it! Being afraid to be cringe is the worst disaster to befall art” “I’m always looking for that subconscious, under-the-skin feeling that we all got when listening to our first favourite bands in high school, where it’s just pure and exciting and takes hold of you” he reckons. “I’ll always worship Maiden, Sabbath and Priest, but I’d hate to be that guy who just goes back to putting on the same records every day. There is always new ground to be broken by those willing to risk it. I hope we succeeded in writing a catchy, exciting, personal record, which also pisses off a few of the more rigid traditionalists”.
Wretched Heart, in all its gory glory, thus embodies a very vital paradox - a record made by true believers who yearn for catharsis beyond. The oxymoron of anthems forged from steel, yet with a very human heart. Even the most cynical bystander will likely struggle not to be bewitched.
This album is for anyone going through it” summarises Cam, “Anyone who’s not afraid to lay it all out in the open and feel something real!”.

Sisyphean - Divergence - LP
Regular price €24,00 Save 0%Sisyphean from Vilnius, Lithuania is one the most exciting bands of the genre. So far, they have released two full-length albums – This third album, titled Divergence will be out on all formats on the 3rd of April 2026.
Perfect for the quietness of the winter forest, but also well suited for a walk through the city centre. Earphones on. A bleak drizzle of rain in the city or a hazy mist in the forest. No stars in the sky, or sun in the morning, just gloom and a sense of hopelessness. But there is always a way to retaliate. To stand up to the poison of lies, deceit and oppression. The feeling of the song is both solitude and anger. Still the solitude is by choice and not by force. Is there a plot for revenge in the making?

And now the Chilean maniacs are back with PSYCHODELIC DARKNESS. Following up their 2022 album Psychodelic Death shouldn´t be easy, but the noose is now tightening in an even more satisfying way.
Unpredictable, dangerous and extremely free of the limitations that what normal people call normal people suffer from. This Chilean band is like a Venom on acid using distortion and chorus effects without limitations, simply because it sounds awesome. You could find them performing a late-night gig at an drugs and alcohol-heavy occult gathering of suicidal satanist vampires who got together for a proper feast of flesh and blood before the suns first cold rays.

JPT Scare Band - Live at Crosstown Station(vinyl) (pre-order)
Regular price €27,00 Save 0%Releases May 22, 2026
For decades, JPT Scare Band has existed as one of heavy music’s most enigmatic cult secrets—a band formed in the early 1970s whose thunderous acid rock and proto-metal fury remained largely undocumented on official releases… until now.
Live at Crosstown Station captures a 2011 concert put together by KKFI 90.1 FM in Kansas City. The show was largely improvised and rehearsed just enough to confirm starts and stops. As frontman Terry Swope told the crowd that night after playing "Sleeping Sickness": "We played that song once, in 1975. This was the second time."
This is a vital piece of underground rock history finally seeing the light of day. Despite forming in Kansas City, Missouri over five decades ago, JPT Scare Band didn’t properly issue studio albums until the 1990s and beyond, leaving their legendary live energy mostly to word-of-mouth and battered bootlegs. This live set changes that and offers the clearest sonic snapshot yet of their heavy psych/acid rock hybrid in a raw, room-shaking setting. The release will appeal strongly to collectors of obscure heavy psych and early metal, and anyone who worships at the altar of Sabbath, Blue Cheer, and Leaf Hound.
The multitrack recordings were helmed by local engineer Dave Brock. Sound was run by Rocky Rude, whose resume includes Deep Purple, Mountain, and The Who. Psychedelic visuals by Paul Grigsby's son John Paul (now bassist for Gregory Alan Isakov) flanked the stage. Paul later mixed and mastered the tracks at Kung Bomar Studios. The result is raw, spontaneous, and historically vital: a cult band's live debut, five decades in the making.
TRACKLIST:
1. Hungry For Your Love
2. Sleeping Sickness
3. Amazons
4. Acid Blues
5. I've Been Waiting
Formed in early 1970s Kansas City, JPT Scare Band have spent decades graduating from totally unknown to painfully obscure. And yet—original lineup still intact. Still making meaningful music. Still proud of the twisted analogue insanity they've been recording since the days of reel-to-reel.
About the band's genesis, guitarist and vocalist Terry Swope recalls: "The JPT Scare Band had no official beginning. The kind hand of fate brought Jeff, Paul and I together in 1973 and left us to sort it out. We moved into a house and set up our gear in the basement. As we jammed away the days and nights, an odd organic process was set in motion. Jeff, Paul and I discovered that we could make a mighty noise. Rather than question this remarkable development, the three of us simply accepted it as fact. We rarely discussed chords or arrangements; those things were beside the point. All that concerned us was combining our energy and using it to create a habitable musical world. Once we made that happen, our travels began.”
Over the years, word has crept into odd corners of the world. In 2007, Classic Rock Magazine named them among the "Lost Pioneers of Heavy Metal" alongside Iron Butterfly, Bloodrock, and Leafhound. The band will take it, even if they never quite called themselves metal. Their first two albums Acid Acetate Excursion and Rape of Titan's Sirens were issued on vinyl only and vanished fast. Their first CD release, Sleeping Sickness, was swallowed when the label Monster Records imploded amid tragedy. For years, JPT existed mostly as rumor and out-of-print artifacts.
Then came Ripple Music. In 2010, guitarist Jeff Littrell reached out to Todd Severin of The Ripple Effect website, asking him to produce an album. Todd instead founded the now world-renowned label Ripple Music and released Acid Blues Is The White Man's Burden as a double gatefold vinyl. Success followed. Fifteen years later, these two forces of nature team up once again to present this essential live work to the masses, with the exclusive release of JPT Scare Band's Live at Crosstown Station in the spring of 2026.

Los Angeles heavy rock heavyweights FIREBALL MINISTRY announce the special vinyl reissue of their 2003 classic "The Second Great Awakening" this May 22nd, as part of Ripple Music's "Beneath The Desert Floor" reissue series.
"LA's Fireball Ministry have been of the most dependent, if not exactly prolific, acts to come out of the late 90's stoner rock movement." — Metal Injection
Fireball Ministry has truth and rock n’ roll valor imprinted in their DNA, with a mixture of East Coast and Midwestern roots stirred into their California melting pot. From the outset, the band has aggressively steered clear of pretension. They move ever forward with a clear focus on bottom-heavy tunes, channeling timeless hard rock without falling into the traps of mere imitation or novelty. As such, they have earned the respect of many fellow artists and a legion of dedicated fans has built in their wake.

Sabbath-soaked rhythms, Priest-worshipping melodies, and no-nonsense Thin Lizzy mayhem collide in the Hollywood, California band, a group that has humbly but confidently flown the flag for rock authenticity since the hard-partying year of 1999. The list of legendary icons that have invited Fireball Ministry to share their stages reads like a crucial discography of desert island riffs: Blue Oyster Cult, Uriah Heap, Alice Cooper, Judas Priest, Slayer, Danzig, Anthrax, Rob Zombie, Motörhead, Dio, and Zakk Wylde’s tribute trio, Zakk Sabbath. They’re an essential part of the festival landscape, regularly appearing at crucial events like Psycho Las Vegas and Motörhead’s Motörboat cruise. The WWE and the people who made Sons of Anarchy are among the true believers who’ve adopted Fireball Ministry anthems as battle cries in their programming.
For nearly two decades, a subversive clandestine cadre of true believers from all walks of life has spread the good word about the band. Fireball Ministry asked an important question with their debut in 1999: Ou Est La Rock? In 2001 they released an EP on Small Stone Records, FMEP. Four years later, the rumble rang louder from the underground, with MTV News taking notice of The Second Great Awakening (Nuclear Blast).
Their Rock Is Not Our Rock (Century Media), released in 2005, was recorded at Dave Grohl’s 606 West studios, and like their previous album, produced by genre legend Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains). In 2010, Fireball Ministry released their self-titled fourth studio album Fireball Ministry (Restricted), produced by Andrew Alekel (Clutch, Fu Manchu), followed by Remember the Story in 2017 (Cleopatra Records). The band remains determined to define success on their own terms, forging ahead with lives free from artistic compromise. Never forget to Remember the Story.

Regular price €14,00 Save Liquid error (snippets/product-template line 135): Computation results in '-Infinity'%There is something about the rawness of emotions expressed in their pure, undiluted form and that’s probably what’s most appealing about this release. Against the backdrop of harrowing, plaintive music are the hollow echoes of an aggrieved, possessed-sounding woman, adding more malice to the music than anything possibly contrived. Over here is something dark, unseemly, insidious if only by being so naturally real and relatable. The intriguing doom-laden black metal music throbs and twists with a firm grip of the atmosphere pressing down on the listener like a hand to the throat. Muerto’s disarmingly direct delivery, masterful juggling of various emotions in an aura of suffocating darkness, and their refreshing rawness in a time of overly processed music make them a band worthy of your attention.

Cnoc An Tursa - A Cry For The Slain (Vinyl)
Regular price €25,00 Save Liquid error (snippets/product-template line 135): Computation results in '-Infinity'%Eight years on from their last album, The Forty Five, Scotland’s Cnoc An Tursa have returned with an evocative tribute to the history, the folklore, the unique magic of their homeland. With their characteristic blend of fierce black metal and traditional melodies they have conjured up a set of songs that bring together mourning and defiance, mystery and fear, pride and passion. It is rare for a band to return from years of silence with an album that represents a new creative peak in their story, but with A Cry For The Slain that is exactly what Cnoc An Tursa have achieved. Speaking about their aims with this album, the band have said,
"With this new album we feel like we are going back to our roots with a more guitar driven style and bringing back some of the folk elements musically and lyrically which was the original inspiration for the band."
And by looking back they have found the way forward, reigniting their fire and forging an album that will resonate through the years to come.
‘Na Fir Ghorma’ with its haunting guitar notes and sense of dignity and sorrow opens the door to A Cry For The Slain, ushering you into the furious opening blast of ‘The Caoineag’. Steeped in bardic tradition and storytelling this majestic track introduces the listener to a highland banshee who foretells death and tragedy and sings her laments beside the deep lochs and chill waterfalls. With the Caoineag’s song atmosphere rises like mountain mists, enshrouding and transporting while the captivating melodies conjured by Cnoc An Tursa lead us into a different world. ‘Cailleach And The Guardians Of The Seven Stones’ is a magnificent, sweeping tribute to the goddess of winter who shapes the landscape with her hammer, the ghost of Thin Lizzy’s ‘Emerald’ dancing in its Gaelic reels. A stunning guitar solo adorns the multifaceted track that captures the power, allure, mystery and terror of the blood thirsty ‘Baobhan Sith’, while the thundering energy of ‘Am Fear Liath Mòr’ takes you to the mountain passes of the Cairngorms, haunted by a giant presence…“I can hear the footsteps behind me, I can see the Big Grey Man”… And nestled amongst all the stories and ‘Address To The Devil’s epic dark poetry, we find first single, ‘Alba In My Heart’ – a pledge of allegiance, a song of devotion to Cnoc An Tursa’s beloved Scotland. There’s a raised fist and a strength of spirit in the blood stirring melodies and the rolling rhythms, in the riffs tumbling down like mountain streams. The authenticity of emotion in this song is undeniable. By the time ‘The Nine Maidens Of Dundee’ leads us down from the peaks once more, with a head full of dreams and a belief that magic may still exist in the less travelled glens of the northlands, the sheer power of Cnoc An Tursa’s return has become abundantly clear. A Cry For The Slain is a breathtaking album, a beacon burning in the night of mundane modernity, calling to those of us who want more than we’ve been sold.
With the intuitive mastering of Jaime Gomez Arellano (Paradise Lost, Primordial, Hexvessel etc) bringing depth and vigour to every note, A Cry For The Slain smoulders with sonic intensity and all the emotion and secrets of its narrative are captured in the evocative artwork of Olga Kann (Winteria, Withered Land, Ruadh etc) that adorns its cover. Apocalyptic Witchcraft will release this monumental album on April 24th and the defiant cry of Cnoc An Tursa will echo through the landscape once more.
